CHEAT SHEET: DAILY SKINCARE ROUTINE

Many of us wonder about our daily beauty routine even we do it so frequently about twice a day. What is the proper morning routine? What about night routine and weekly beauty routine?   What is the best skincare routine? With so many products in this ever-changing market, things can get confusing sometimes. As a matter of fact, your beauty routine really depends on your skin type and more importantly who you are. Here I have created this daily face routine chart hopefully it can help finding the perfect daily skincare routine that suits you the best.


EASY LAVENDER HAND CREAM YOU WILL LOVE

Although tried many hand cream recipes in winter, I have never made hand cream in summer as weather is humid where I live. Since we now live in a time we need to wash or sanitize hands million times a day I find myself in need of dry hand remedy again in the middle of summer. Here is a super simple recipe for hand cream with Lavender scent that reminds me of summer times that we can go places freely. Here you go.

Prepare time: 5 MINS

Ingredients:

2 TBSP                MANGO BUTTER

2 TSP                  ALOE VERA GEL

6 DROPS             LANVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL

2 DROPS             VITAMIN E (D-alpha-tocopherol)

Directions:

  1. Blend mango butter till smooth (2 mins via hand mixer)
  2. Add Aloe Vera Gel, blend it together
  3. Add Lavender essential oil and Vitamin E oil, blend again till mix well

THING TO DO TO RELIEVE STRESS RIGHT AWAY

Feeling overwhelmed but stuff seems to keep piling up and attacking you? Having no idea how to stop stress, how to be calm, how not to stress or what to do when stressed out? I have been there, many times. Here are 5 things that ALWAYS work for me RIGHT AWAY when I am feeling stressed. Hope these little tricks can help you reduce anxiety and stay calm as well.

  1. FAST – FRESH AIR, SUNLIGHT AND TREES

Japanese word KOMOREBI means sunlight filtered throughout tree leaves. Do you feel instantly better when looking at the picture? Well, you don’t have to go into the forests every time when you feel stressed. At least get out of your scene fast and find fresh air. If you can go outside, take a walk, look up to the sun (or sky) and get close to trees would be ideal. But you get the idea, go anywhere else and find nature.

2. BREATH IN AND … OUT

Take few deep breathes, and try to focus your mind on the breath and nothing else. If you find it hard emptying your thoughts, make a sound and focus on that sound while breathing in and out. Do it for at least a few seconds and take as long as you need.

3. GIVE A SQUEEZE, LET IT GO

This trick I learnt from Daniel Tiger works great when muscles need extra relaxation since they are so tense. Just tense and release your muscles and your body will feel more relaxed afterward. (Progressive muscle relaxation)

4. IF YOU CAN’T SOLVE IT, LAUGH AT IT

As hard as it sounds, accept the situation and try laugh at it. When stressed, I sometimes animated my situation in most exaggerating fashion in my head, like I turned into a crazy chicken with a trident battling hundreds of minions then I will start to laugh. If you can laugh at and make fun of your situation, it will instantly become less stressful.

5. HAVE SOME YUMMY FOOD

Even if you are one of those who lose the entire appetite under stress, still never underestimate the healing power of food. (remember Eat Pray Love?) Actually, pay extra attention what you eat under stress. I, like rest of many, will quickly turn to high sodium, high sugar junk food under stress. I find a quick fix is to think about comfort food that reminds you good times and arouses positive feelings, like something you had on a date, at a party, or something that always make you feel better after a tough day.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you have more than a few minutes, exercise, yoga, meditation, talk with trusted ones or seeking professional help. There are many many ways to still enjoy the beauty of life under stress. Hope everyone can still feel the Sun even when blocked by clouds sometimes.


Perfect DIY Spa Day At Home Recipe

Dream about pampering yourself with a DIY spa day kit at home but don’t know how to start? Here are some easy DIY SPA day recipes to get some SPA water, bath salt, sugar scrub, face mask and body oil ready in minutes for your next spa day. These are some of my basic recipes for a quick treatment, you can add your personal twist to make DIY spa day kit for gifts or invite friends and loved ones to join!

  1. Strawberry Cucumber Spa Water

Nothing like a colorful blissful drink to set the relaxing mood. Spa water is another pretty name for fruit infused water. One of my favorites is strawberry and cumber water as you can eat the rest of the strawberries and place cucumber slices on eyes later at facial.

Prepare time: 3 mins

Ingredients:

Two strawberries

Few slices of cumbers

Tonic water (I used coconut water)
Directions: slices the fruit and place them in glass (save at least 2 cucumber slices for later). Fill the glass with water/tonic water/coconut water or anything you prefer.  

2. Soothing Rose & Oats bath salt:

I pretty much start all my bath salt mix with Epsom salt for it can sooth sore muscles at the end of the day then add preferred herbs. I always blend the herbs and oats first and add it to the salt mix as I am not sure if they will drain well I my hundred-old house if added directly.

Prepare time:  3 mins

Ingredients:

½ Cup Epson salt

½ Cup Himalayan pink salt

1 TBSP Dried Rose Petal

1 TBSP Rolled Oats

Directions: blend rose petal and rolled oats, add them in Epson salt & Himalayan pink salt mix, stir till mixed completely.

3. Refreshing Peppermint Sugar Scrub

Sugar scrubs is another of my must have DIY Spa day items. It’s all natural and can be used on both face and body. It gently buffered away dead skin cells and skin literally softened, brightened and smoother right away. Here I added peppermint as it is my favorite herb to add for summer. If you are having trouble finding dry herbs, my hack is to check your tea cabinets. A lot of herbal tea have what we need and they are already blended and ready to be added to your next beauty DIY product.

Prepare time: 3 mins

Ingredients:

½ Cup Cane Sugar

1 Peppermint Tea Bag

1 TBSP Aloe Vera Gel

Directions: Mix all the ingredients together and enjoy.

4. Detoxing Green Tea Face Mask

Prepare time: 3 mins

One of my most used DIY face masks contains green tea and honey for their detoxing, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties, (Well, their benefits go way beyond this) and they smell so good! In this recipe I added French green clay as my skin feels it can use some deep cleansing recently. You can skip it or use different clay or oats instead.

Ingredients:

1 Green Tea Bag

1 TBSP French Green Clay / Kaolin Clay

1 TSP Honey

Directions: Mix all the ingredients together and enjoy.

5. Sweet Orange Almond Body Oil

Last step of a spa day I ritually like to use body oil instead of lotion. My favorite is sweet almond oil as it is light, non-greasy and moisturizing. If you are lucky enough to have a loved one ready to give you a massage then jojoba oil might be a better choice. You can apply body oil directly and massage into skin. I like to add essential oil for extra pampering and one of my favorites is sweet orange or lavender if I am ready for bed. If you are familiar with aromatherapy, you can add few drops your favorite mix.

Prepare time: 1 min

Ingredients:

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet Orange / Lavender essential oil

Directions: Add few drops of your favorite essential oil to body carrier oil and massage into skin.


Quick Rose Sugar Scrub / Peppermint Sugar Scrub Recipe

Microbeads is one of microplastic can be found on almost every beach worldwide. There are 5 Trillian floating pieces of plastic contaminating our water. Out of many alternatives to microbeads, my favorite is fine sugar. Fine sugar is natural source of glycolic acids which boots cell production and breaks down proteins that keep dead cells attached to your skin. It can quickly dissolve in water and leaves nothing for our water after jobs done. Below is quick Rose and Peppermint sugar scrub recipe for face and body. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

Peppermint sugar scrub

1 TSP     Dried peppermint

3 TBSP  Cane Sugar

½ TBSP  Aloe Vera Gel

Rose sugar scrub

1 TSP     Dried rose petals

3 TBSP  Cane Sugar

½ TBSP  Aloe Vera Gel

Directions:

  1. Grind dry peppermint or rose petals
  2. Add cane sugar and Aloe vera gel
  3. Stir well

Simple Rose Yogurt Exfoliating Clay Mask

One of my favorite face masks is honey oats 3 in 1 face masks from Body Shop. After learning many beauty recipes. I try to create this mask with a little floral twist. Today I made a rose honey clay mask which is detoxing, exfoliating and rejuvenating. It combines classic ingredients such as honey ,oats, Aloe vera gel with rose petals and kaolin clay to create a more multi0purpose yet still easy to make face mask. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

1 TSP                  Dried Rose Petals

1 TBSP                Rolled Oats

½ TSP                  Kaolin Clay

1 TSP                  Aloe vera Gel

2 TSP                  Greek Yogurt

Directions:

  1. Grind dried rose petals and rolled oats together
  2. Add Kaolin Clay, yogurt and Aloe Vera gel, stir well
  3. On clean and damp skin, apply the mask for 5-10 mins, remove while mask is still wet

Lemon Hand Cream Recipe

As a person who constantly washes hands throughout the day (Sometimes for no reason), I am always on the hunt for next great hand cream recipe especially when weather gets colder. Comparing to body butter, I like hand cream to be thicker, more moisturizing yet still easy to absorb and smooth to apply. Below is a hand cream recipe with Mango butter, healing Chamomile, Calendula and Sunflower oil. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp                Mango Butter

1 Tsp                   Chamomile & Calendula infused Sunflower oil

2 Tsp                   Aloe Vera Gel

6 Drops              Lemon Essential Oil

Few Drops          Vitamin E (D-alpha-tocopherol)

Directions:

  1. Blend mango butter till smooth (2 mins via hand mixer)
  2. Add Sunflower oil and Aloe Vera Gel, blend it together
  3. Add Lemon essential oil and Vitamin E oil, blend again till mix well

Simple Non-Greasy Sweet Orange whipped body Butter

One of most frequently made natural skincare products in our home is body butter. It’s easy to make, non-greasy, silky smooth and ultra-moisturizing. Here is my simple go-to whipped body butter recipe with mango butter, Aloe Vera and sweet orange essential oil. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

¼ Cup                 Mango Butter

4 Tsp                   Aloe Vera Gel

10 drops             Sweet Orange essential oil

2-3 Drops           Vitamin E oil (D-Alpha-Tocopherol)

Directions:

  1. Whipped Mango butter till smooth (about 5 minutes with hand mixer)
  2. Add Aloe Vera Gel and mix again (you will notice everything starts to become fluffy)
  3. Add sweet orange essential oil (or you preferred essential oil) and Vitamin E Oil (Anti-oxidant)
  4. Mix well and enjoy!

Exfoliating Face Mask with Oats for different skin types

With simple ingredients and few minutes of your time, you can make a quick and gentle exfoliating mask to give a skin a boost in term of overall appearance. Oats have always been my favorite as exfoliates in facial masks. It is gentle and full of amino acids which are building blocks of our skin. Below I made three exfoliating masks using oats and easy to find ingredients like dried botanicals, honey, yogurt and Aloe. It can be used for normal to dry, normal to oily or sensitive skin. Enjoy!

Rose oats yogurt mask (best for normal, normal to dry or mature skin type)

Ingredients:

1 TSP     Dried rose petals

1 TSP     Rolled oats

2 TSP     Greek Yogurt

Directions:

Grind rose petals and oats, add yogurt and mix well

Green tea honey mask (Best for normal and normal to oily skin type)

Ingredients:

1 TSP     Green tea powder

1 TSP     Rolled oats

1 TSP     Honey (Manuka honey UMF 15+ recommended)

Directions:

Grind rolled oats add green tea power and honey, stir well and enjoy.

Chamomile Aloe Mask (Best for normal or sensitive skin type)

Ingredients:

1 TSP dried Chamomile flowers

1 TSP Dried Oats

1 TSP Aloe Vera Gel

Directions:

Grind Chamomile flowers and oats, add Aloe Vera gel and stir well.
